Young A team full-back Billy Warrington made his first team debut against, inevitably, Warrington in January 1929. The match report described his debut as “a little shaky at the start, which was not to be wondered at, but he recovered well and he played his part in an epic struggle”. Rovers lost 8-5 but were brave losers. Unfortunately, Warrington’s career failed to take off, as he played just four further matches, unable to dislodge Sid Denton from the number one shirt.
