New Zealand centre Brett Rodger played for the same Canterbury team as Brendon Tuuta, Simon Angell and Mark Nixon in 1993 so, when he came over to England half way through the 1994/95 season, it was to Featherstone Rovers. With Carl Gibson switched to full-back and Andy Currier injured again, Rodger slipped straight into the first team, and grabbed eight tries in 16 matches that year. In the Centenary season before the start of summer rugby in 1996, he was joined by compatriots Angell and Damien Mackie at Rovers, but before the summer season could begin all three players were released by the club in a cost-cutting measure.
