A strapping centre from Dewsbury, Brian Kelly slotted straight into the Rovers first team for his debut in January 1950 after being signed for £250. Although he struggled with injuries at times, he managed more than 60 games with Rovers over five seasons at a time when he had strong competition for a place from Don Metcalfe, Mick Clamp and Alan Tennant.
