For a while, local product Brian Waites looked like he could be the answer to Rovers’ long-standing wing problem, as the search for Ken Kellett’s replacement continued more than a year after his retirement. Waites had real pace, and knocked Neil Woolford out of the side, but injury set him back just as he was establishing himself. The following year he was first choice again until the arrival of new coach George Pianiazek, and his first team chances dried up.
