Charlie Smith first played professionally at Wakefield Trinity around the time of World War One. He had first played for Featherstone Rovers as a junior club as far back as 1915. When Rovers joined the Seniors in 1921 Smith was playing at Purston White Horse, but signed for Rovers in time to play full-back in our first ever senior match, one of the thirteen “Originals”. Over the course of the club’s debut senior season Smith lost his place at full-back to Billy Seymour. It was his last year as a professional.
