Although he was born in New Zealand to Samoan parents, Chris Ulugia was brought up in Australia, and played his first rugby at the Queensland Cup side Mackay Cutters. He came over to England in 2015 to play at Bradford, where he failed to settle, having a much better time at Batley on loan in 2016. From there he moved to Featherstone in 2017. Not the biggest player, but strong and committed, he slotted in well at Featherstone, managing 11 tries before a serious shoulder injury cut short his year. He then spent the whole of the following year in rehabilitation in an unsuccessful bid to regain match fitness.
