Australian born hooker Connor Jones was an unheralded signing when he came to Featherstone midway through the 2019 season as back up to another Australian, Cameron King. It was the beginning of a seven year spell at Post Office Road, during which time he endeared himself to the fans with his work-rate, consistency and dedication.

Jones started his career with Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup. Lively in the loose, Jones enjoyed an eye-catching debut in Canada, in a creditable defeat at Toronto. He played through the rest of the season including a second trip to Toronto for the 2019 Grand final, where Rovers just missed out on a Super League place. His form had caught the attention of top flight clubs and the following year he played for Super League side Salford in the truncated Covid season, before re-joining Featherstone in 2021.

He quickly settled back into his previous role, offering swift service out of acting half-back and high levels of fitness to get through a lot of work on defence. His eye for a gap brought him thirteen tries, often using his pace to back up breaks in centre field. For much of the season he shared the hooking duties with fellow Australian Dean Parata, but by the end of the campaign, Jones was doing the full 80 minutes. He missed the 1895 Cup final at Wembley with Covid, but played in his second successive Championship Grand final, in Toulouse, with Rovers once again finishing second best. The following year he had an outstanding season under Brian McDermott, sharing the hooking role with Matty Wildie, in addition to an occasional appearance at centre. He grabbed five tries in a match against Workington and finished with 21 tries in 29 games.

2023 was another standout year for Jones. Reprising his role as interchange acting halfback with Wildie, he was an ever-present throughout the season. His runs and backing up against tiring defences brought rich reward as he finished the Championship's third top try scorer with 21. With wholesale changes made at the end of the year, Connor Jones took on extra workload in 2024 as a senior player, often playing the full 80 minutes as interchange acting-halfback partner Harry Bowes was often needed in the halves. Despite suffering a family bereavement mid-season, he maintained a high level of consistency and work-rate, playing in 31 of Rovers’ 33 games and was second top try scorer with 18. In 2025 under Paul Cooke’s coaching, Will Jubb played as starting hooker with Jones as an impact acting half-back off the bench. Behind a less dominant pack, there were fewer gaps to exploit, but Jones missed just two matches all year, and one of those a mandatory absence after a head knock.

Although he was contracted for the following year, Jones and the rest of the Rovers squad were made free agents after the club hit financial difficulties and he moved to Doncaster for 2026 along with a couple of his team-mates. His record of 86 tries in 152 games speaks for itself, one of the stand-out players in the Championship over his time at Featherstone Rovers.
