Although born locally, Danny Addy’s career started at Bradford where he spent six years before moving to Hull KR then Salford in a Super League career of over 200 matches. Operating as a ball-playing middle, he signed for Featherstone Rovers for the 2024 season, where his top flight experience proved invaluable to a rebuilt pack. He was made club skipper, and early season disruption to the half-backs meant that many ball distribution responsibilities fell on him, as well as the full eighty minutes defensive work. He had a spell mid-season where he was selected in the halves, and his kicking game was also called into use regularly. He missed just four matches all season, three of them suspended, including the final two fixtures. The following year he took on a similar role, as emergency half-back cover from time to time, otherwise leading from the front in an old-fashioned loose forward style, combining his tackling load and running with some distribution and kicking duties. In his final game, he filled in at hooker with both Jones and Jubb ruled out.

His undoubted commitment to the Featherstone cause continued into the off-season as, despite administration and financial concerns, Addy did not sign for any other club until it was clear the club would be unable to compete in 2026. At that point he joined North Wales Crusaders, having captained Rovers in 58 fixtures over two seasons.

He was a Scottish international player, won 18 international caps and played at the 2013 and 2017 World Cups.
