As the son of Barry and grandson of Ray, there was no doubting Danny Evans’ pedigree but he broke with tradition by turning out to be a very useful loose-forward, rather than a half-back like the rest of his relatives. He came through the Academy and reserve system at Featherstone to debut with the first team in the centenary season in the transition between summer and winter. A born footballer, Danny had a good range of ball-handling skills. Solidly built although not tall, he could hold his own in the forwards. Like any true clubman he loyally served the reserves when not required for first team duty. Thus, he achieved that rarest of things in the modern game, a benefit season after 10 years of service to the club. He played briefly at Dewsbury before retiring, at which point he came back to Featherstone and got involved with coaching. After running the reserves he became assistant coach to John Bastian, Andy Hay, Jon Sharp and John Duffy, occasionally stepping in as caretaker coach between appointments. A great Featherstone Rovers servant.
