Darren Appleby was an Australian half-back from Illawarra who came to Featherstone on a trial after the departure of Deryck Fox. He played just one game but that was not enough to secure one of overseas quota spots.  He was immediately signed by Keighley and served them well over a number of years before moving onto Batley and Rochdale, making over 150 appearances in the lower division.
