Dave Lamming was a record signing when he joined Featherstone in March 1962 from Wakefield for £4,000. His signing was designed to strengthen the pack. It didn’t prove to be a good move for the player or the club. 

Lamming began his rugby at Snapethorpe school in Wakefield and gained county honours as a schoolboy at loose forward.  He signed professionally with Wakefield in 1955 and established himself in the first team before being called up for national service.  On his return to Wakefield he found himself predominantly an A team player as the number 13 shirt was now occupied by Belle Vue legend Derek “Rocky” Turner. Nevertheless as a squad member he still racked up 113 first team appearances at Wakefield and got a Challenge Cup winners medal in 1960 even though he didn’t actually play in the final.

His career at Rovers lasted only 8 months and 24 appearances when he was transferred to York for £2500.  He later had a spell as coach at Wakefield.
