Originally from Cutsyke, David Vickers signed for Featherstone Rovers as a teenager. Equally at home as a wide running second-rower or at loose forward, he made his debut off the bench in Rovers’ league winning season of 1976/77. It wasn’t until the following year he played more regularly for the first team. His best first team run was in the Second Division, when he played in 28 games, scored six tries and picked up a Championship medal. Later in his career he played for fledgling new club Carlisle alongside a number of former Featherstone team-mates.
