Hailing from Hull, Dennis was signed by Hull KR in 1946 as a full back and went on to establish himself in the first team as a winger.  In November 1951 he was sold to Leeds for a Hull KR club record fee of £4,000. After 112 appearances with Leeds he signed for Featherstone in September 1956.  He proved to be a good clubman and featured prominently in attack in the 43 appearances he made.  Having lost his place in 1957 to young Brian Kinsey he was transferred back to Hull KR where he moved into the pack.  He finished his career playing at Doncaster.
