Born and bred in Featherstone, Derek “Dabber” Davis started with Featherstone Rovers intermediates, but signed for Wakefield. He came back to Featherstone in the summer following our first Wembley trip and made his debut that August. He worked at Ackton Hall pit, then was a steward at a working men’s club before becoming a rent collector for the local council. He also sang in the male voice choir, was a leading light in Featherstone Amateur Dramatics for many years and was a club turn for a number of years, originally as a duo with Dick Belfield and later as a solo.
