Derrell Olpherts came to Featherstone in the twilight of a career that had taken him from an early career at League 1 level to Super League stints at Salford, Castleford and Leeds. He joined Rovers after a successful Championship title winning campaign at Wakefield. A prolific try scorer throughout his career he grabbed two on his Featherstone debut against Ince Rose Bridge in the Challenge Cup. Competing for a wing spot with Gareth Gale and Connor Wynne, he was twice dropped from the side, but to his credit never allowed this to affect his confidence or enthusiasm. Twice he forced his way back into the team, and he finished the year as the club’s top try scorer with 18 from 26 starts. When the club went into administration at the end of the season, Olpherts left.
