A local product, centre Eddie Davis made his debut at a particularly grim time for the club. Endless defats for a demoralised team were not the ideal circumstances for a youngster to start out, but Davis made the best of things. 18 games in his first year were followed by less regular outings over the following two years. His promising career was then cut short when he joined the police force. At that time, the police were not allowed to play semi-professional rugby.

Davis was a well-known Featherstone figure later in life and also worked as a Railway signalman. He was churchwarden at St.Thomas’s for many years and sang in the male voice choir, a well-respected member of the local community.
