From a local mining family Ted Brogden played for Featherstone Juniors and was snapped by Wakefield Trinity as a teenager in 1932. He went almost immediately into the first team and earned a runners-up medal after Wakefield were beaten by Leeds in the 1932 Yorkshire Cup Final with Brogden on the wing.  After 17 first team games he lost his first team place and eventually came back to his hometown team and made his debut in November 1935.

He played for two seasons and covered a number of positions in the back division primarily at centre or wing but he also played at stand-off and full back.  These were two extremely tough seasons as Rovers finished bottom of the league in both but the successful struggle to keep the club going was down to efforts of players like Ted.
