Born in Pontefract, Eric Broom came onto the Rovers scene as a strong running teenage centre who soon made a first team spot his own. As he bulked up, he moved to second-row with success. In his fifth season with Rovers he was sold to Hull for a handsome fee of £2,000.  He played most of the rest of his career at the Boulevard as a well-respected forward, eventually moving to prop and clocking up 244 games for Hull.  He was also a talented goal kicker who didn't get much opportunity to display those skills at Featherstone but he did kick 165 goals in his Hull career. After a final year at Doncaster he retired in 1975 and took over the Sailors’ Home pub at Knottingley, and coached their rugby league team with some success.
