Frank Birchill was signed from the juniors in 1960 and played a number of games in the A team before moving to London.  The club did not cancel his registration, and he reappeared in early 1962, and re-started playing with the A team.  In September 1962, his form was such that he gained a call up to the first team and made his solitary appearance at that level.
