In the early 1950s, competition for the hooking role in Featherstone’s first team was between Bill Bradshaw and Willis Fawley. At the start of 1952/3, both Fawley and Bradshaw were injured so Frank Whitemore stepped up from the reserves. Originally from the Sharlston club, Whitemore did well enough, but once Bradshaw, the Fawley were fit again, Whitemore became third choice hooker again and his chances were very limited.
