Hull-born back-rower Frankie Mariano was on Hull KR’s books before making a breakthrough in Super League with three seasons at Wakefield Trinity. From there, he had a brief loan spell at Featherstone in the 2013 season. After three years at Castleford he returned to Featherstone for the 2017 season. With size and pace, he had the ideal build for a modern back-rower, and was a destructive runner on his day. He made a solid contribution to that campaign which included overcoming a series of niggling injuries. As those niggles increased in 2018, he left Rovers and dropped down a division to sign for Doncaster.

Mariano qualified for Scotland through his heritage, debuting in 2016. He and Rovers team-mate Sam Brooks were Featherstone’s two representatives at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, Mariano grabbing a try at the tournament versus Samoa.
