Freddie Banquet was a France Under 21 international winger when he came over to Featherstone on the recommendation of Rovers' second-rower Danny Divet. Despite his inexperience, Freddie had an immediate impact and settled into life at Featherstone, and to first team football. He scored four tries in a Challenge Cup quarter-final at Whitehaven, but was not selected for the semi-final. After the Super League bombshell dropped, Banquet moved on to Sheffield and then won a contract at the newly formed Paris St. Germain club. He went down in history as the Super League competition's first ever try scorer as PSG opened the competition in 1996. After a spell at Wakefield, he went back to France and played for Villeneuve and his first club Carcassonne. He won 21 caps for his country.
