Born in French Guyana, and therefore believed to be the first ever South American born rugby league professional in the UK, Gadwin Springer initially joined Rovers for a seven match spell in 2021 after being released by Halifax. In the early part of his career, which had started at Catalan Dragons, took him through a number of clubs, including Toronto, for whom he played against Featherstone, in the 2019 Grand final. Tall, strong and relatively mobile, he certainly added size to the Rovers pack during that loan spell, before an injury finished his season early.

Springer then joined promoted Toulouse in Super League for 2022 but, when he failed to settle there, he came back to Featherstone and slotted back into his customary middle position, often used off the bench. When he was given a starting role by coach Brian McDermott in 2023, Springer thrived, proving a handful for opposition defences and contributing the occasional try too. After a persistent knee injury finished his season early, his presence was badly missed. He had more luck in 2024, and other than a five match spell on the sidelines, Springer played the whole season, used as a starting prop in the first half of the year, and then latterly off the bench.

Approaching the veteran stage, his 2025 season under Paul Cooke, offered the same hard to tackle running style, but on reduced minutes in shorter spells. When he moved to Doncaster at the end of the year, he had made 85 appearances for Featherstone Rovers, considerably more games than for any of his other five clubs.
