Gareth Gale first had trials with Featherstone Rovers in the 2018 pre-season, but it wasn’t until 2020 that he eventually signed from Featherstone Lions. His promising-looking debut season was cut short by the Covid pandemic, but in 2021 Gale exploded onto the scene. Rovers’ expansive style suited him very well, and opposition defences found him impossible to handle. He scored against every single opponent in the league, including a record-equalling six against Newcastle. Equally impressive were the huge yards he made bringing the ball forward from acting half-back inside his own half. 27 tries in 26 matches would have seen him top try scorer most seasons, but he was pipped to that honour by Craig Hall. He picked up a winner’s medal in the 1895 final at Wembley, and a runners’ up medal in the Grand Final against Toulouse.

He had a less prolific 2022, but still managed eight tries in 18 matches before losing his first team spot to Tom Lineham. He was back to his best the following year, playing in every fixture for Rovers, and notching 30 tries, only the 7th time in the club's history a player had scored 30 tries in a year. This total included five hatricks and left him in 2nd place on the League charts for 2023.

After four seasons as a fixture on the left wing, Gale was switched to the right wing in 2024 to help resolve defensive problems down that flank. He tightened up the defence, but received less try scoring opportunities. As well as his 12 tries in 27 games, he continued to offer huge yardage in bringing the ball out of defensive positions. By an odd quirk of fate, Gale returned exactly the same statistics from the 2025 season, 12 tries from 27 matches. Now at the veteran stage, he had the ability to slot into the centre role at times, as a thin squad struggled with injuries.

At the end of the season with the club in administration, Gale retired from the professional game and moved back to Featherstone Lions. He went with the best wishes of the fans who always considered him “one of our own”, having scored an impressive 90 tries in 130 appearances.
