Gary Lord had a remarkable career, which saw him start out as a full-back at hometown club Castleford. After being a Challenge Cup winner there in 1986, he played in a wide variety of different positions for a wide variety of clubs, including Leeds, Halifax and Oldham. By the time he arrived at Featherstone in 2001 aged 35, the penultimate move of a durable career, he was a solid prop forward who offered willing running combined with some off-loading skills. Under the coaching or Peter Roe, he did a serviceable job for Featherstone that year in a front row that included Richard Chapman, Stuart Dickens and Craig Booth. Lord’s career came to an end the following year at Gateshead Thunder.
