Local hooker Gavin Swinson signed for his home-town team as a teenager. With Richard Chapman installed as first team hooker, Swinson played a few games in the three quarters as he gained first team experience after his reserve team apprenticeship. He spent 2000 at Rochdale, but came back to Featherstone the following year, again splitting his time between the three-quarters and off the bench as alternating hooker with Chapman. He moved to Batley in 2003 but then had a spell out of the professional game, so it was a little bit surprising to see him back at Featherstone in 2006 helping the club once again in their efforts to get out of National League Two.

He repaid the club’s faith in him, a regular starter in 2006, and although he was used more sparingly in 2007 he fittingly came off the bench in the Playoff final against Oldham to have a hand in a crucial try. When he retired in 2008 he had played just short of 100 games for the club in three separate spells.
