Signed in April 1947, winger Geoffrey Darlison made his debut out of position at centre at the end of a long season that included a huge fixture backlog towards the end. Thrown in at the deep end in a trip to St. Helens he was harshly judged to have “shown nothing that he is ready for first team football”. Nine further games on the wing over the following three seasons failed to yield a single try. He was a cousin of Oliver and Victor Darlison who preceded him in the Rovers first team.
