Signed from Sharlston Rovers in January 1924, George Albert Taylor became a first team regular, mostly as a winger, but also capable of filling in at centre when required. His debut came in a poor performance for an injury ravaged Rovers team in a bad loss to Rochdale, but it was pointed out that “it would not be fair to criticise Taylor". Indeed, he laid on a brilliant try for Richardson, Rovers’ only score. He built on that start, rarely out of the first team over the following six seasons. His best year was undoubtedly 1927/8 when he missed just three games, scored 12 tries including a vital one in Rovers famous Championship semi-final win at Leeds. He played in both the Championship final against Swinton and the Yorkshire Cup final against Leeds that November.

Towards the end of his career, he switched to the forwards and played a number of games at loose forward, finally retiring in 1931 after eight years with the club.
