Originally from Pontefract, Gordon Longstaff signed for Rovers from local amateur rugby. A useful centre, he was trying to break into a very strong three-quarter line that included a young John Newlove, Gary Jordan and Keith Cotton among others. His chance came as Rovers rested players in their 1967 Cup run, but just four first team outings would be the sum total of his career. Gordon’s older brother Paul played at Huddersfield, then Hull KR with notable success.
