Graham Southernwood spent the first five years of his career at Castleford. Capped by Great Britain U21s his promising progress looked like it would stall before Steve Martin brought him to Featherstone in a new look front row in the summer of 1993. Used sparingly in his first year at Rovers, he eventually displaced Richard Gunn as first choice number nine, and went close to a Cup final appearance in Rovers’ run to the semi-finals in 1995. After Super League and enforced demotion, Southernwood was one of a number of players who stuck with the club initially but in the summer of 1996 he joined Hunslet.
