In January 1928, the Featherstone Rovers committee considered they had made one of their most important captures for many seasons when Harold Blakeley was signed from Featherstone Rugby Union.  He was the fourth player from Featherstone Rugby Union to go over to rugby league that season.  He was 22 years old and had been sought by both Wakefield Trinity and Castleford, and was considered one of the most promising forwards in the district. However, his Featherstone career didn't fulfill these lofty expectations and only consisted of 18 appearances in total.
