In November 1946, Harry Herbert was a 25 year old scrum-half at Wakefield Trinity, having previously played for Dewsbury, who came to Featherstone for a trial match. He played as AN Other and did enough to be signed up. With Jack Higgins injured, and Jimmy Russell still inexperienced, Herbert had a good run at the first team through that season. The following year he lost his place to Russell.
