Son of a glasshoughton miner, 18 year old Harry Naylor signed for his home town team Castleford in November 1934.  But this didn't work out and in March 1935, Rovers signed him on.

These were desperate times for Rovers, languishing at the bottom of the league, and Naylor was dropped straight into the team with no opportunity to develop in the reserves.  He instantly became a regular and was a constant feature of a team line up which constantly changed as Rovers followed a sell to survive policy.  Naylor played across the three quarter line over four full seasons until the start of world war two brought his rugby career to an end.  He was one of a number of Rovers players who served in HM forces during the war. 

Although not the most prolific scorer, just fifteen tries in over 100 games, he was nevertheless a whole-hearted performer in difficult times for the club.
