Loose forward Harry Smith was an important part of the very successful Sharlston All-Blacks amateur side in the early 1930s. He turned professional for Featherstone Rovers in 1934, as did his erstwhile team-mates Benny Lingard and John Pollitt. He played 35 games in his first season, rarely missing a match, but the following year the arrival of Bill Sherwood left Smith out of the team. He eventually went back to Sharlston.
