A local man, Jack Anderson was signed in 1961 shortly after being demobbed from the army.  He made his debut against Batley in April 1961, and played in the last four matches of the season.  Against St Helens at Post Office Road that month, when the Rovers acheived a notable 28-11 victory, Jack's defence was outstanding as he stopped certain tries by Watson, Vollenhoven and Large and, for good measure, dropped a goal to register his first senior points. Unfortunately for him the full-back position over the next three seasons was dominated by the constant brilliance of Jack Fennell, followed by Gary Cooper. Anderson's senior appearances were therefore restricted to 18. His older brother Colin also played for Rovers, as did their father Lionel.
