 Front-row forward Jack Flaherty was signed on as a 24 year old from the Askern Miners Welfare club in September 1933 and went straight into the team.  His debut was a baptism of fire as he had two teeth broken in a defeat by Batley.  At the time Rovers were looking for more solidity in the pack and more possession from the scrums.  Jack helped provide this though the team overall struggled badly during his three seasons at the club.
