Welshman Jack Maiden was a desperately needed reinforcement for a threadbare Featherstone squad in January 1947 season. Originally from Newbridge, he “went North” to play for Dewsbury, and was immediately impressive on his Rovers debut. A solid scrummager, it wasn’t long before he asked to be put on the transfer list, which he was at £600. Huddersfield met that fee and he moved to Fartown in December 1947.
