In the middle of the 2025, rumours surfaced that Rovers had signed Sheffield centre James Glover for the 2026 season. He was then released from his Eagles contract and joined Rovers early, playing out the 2025 season. Fourteen years previously Glover had started his career in Featherstone Rovers' Academy team, playing alongside Luke Cooper among others. His Championship career had brought him more than 80 tries in almost 200 appearances. He marked his Featherstone debut with two tries in a convincing win at Barrow, and continued to catch the eye with some strong running which bagged him ten tries in 15 matches, despite being hampered by an old quad injury towards the end of the season.

He made history when, in the penultimate game of the season at Bradford, he became the first player to be used as 18^th man for Featherstone Rovers following two enforced substitutions because of head injuries. In the final game of the season, he was pressed into the unfamiliar role of halfback as late season injuries and suspensions took their toll.

At the end of the year, the whole Rovers squad were made free agents after the club hit financial difficulties and Glover moved to Doncaster for 2026 along with a couple of his team-mates.
