James Mendeika’s career started at Warrington, but two seasons there yielded only loan spells at Championship clubs. In 2014 he moved to Featherstone and quickly showed his quality and versatility. That season he managed 20 tries from 21 games, including two hatricks against North Wales. He filled in a full-back, centre and wing as required, and made his pace tell in each position. A number of niggling injuries had not hampered his progress, but in 2015 injuries did keep him out of the team and a move to Bradford to regain fitness became permanent. He qualified for Ireland through his heritage and won eight caps, appearing in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup just before he joined Featherstone.
