Jamie Peacock was a tall second-rower at Bradford who came to Featherstone on loan for the 1998 season under coach Steve Sims. A steady enough youngster at reserve team level, he showed little of the potential which saw him become one of the stars of the game. After Rovers had agonisingly lost the Grand final against Wakefield, Peacock and other youngsters received a chance to play in the short-lived Treize Tournoi at the end of the year. His loan spell would have passed unnoticed but for the fact that he went on to play nearly 500 Super League games for Bradford and Leeds, won nine Super League Championships and four Challenge Cups, captained Great Britain, and was awarded an MBE. All this on the back of a professional debut for Featherstone Rovers as a second-half substitute in a narrow win over Widnes in July 1998.
