Signed from Willow Park in November 1948, Jim Derry’s debut was at the Boulevard against Hull, and “the young Derry faded out a little after a most promising start”. He appeared again in Christmas day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day fixtures, but failed to hold his place. His final game came at the beginning of the following season where he “tried hard throughout the game but was too slow”.
