Winger Jimmy McDaniel signed for Rovers from the unusual source of the Hull University team. After a season with the reserves, he received a first team chance against Dewsbury. Unfortunately a very poor team performance led to an embarrassing defeat, and one or two unfortunate errors from McDaniel were unfairly highlighted. Despite an 1895 Cup appearance later in the year, he then gave up the game and retired.
