Joe Evans was a handy loose forward from Crofton who signed in 1932 and slotted straight into the Rovers first team. He was of very good pedigree in that his father, Billy Evans, a Streethouse miner, was a county standard player with Leeds Parish Church in the early days of the Northern Union. After two years, Joe Evans was inevitably sold to help raise sufficient money to keep the club afloat financially. He went to Hull KR. He is not to be confused with another Joe Evans, a scrum-half from Featherstone who played with Rovers at exactly the same time.
