Joe Hirst joined Featherstone from Wakefield as a young back-rower keen to make his mark. His progress was hampered by niggling injuries, and despite the promise he had shown, he was released at the end of the 2009 season. He then served Sheffield Eagles for a number of seasons, playing in the 2012 Championship Grand final side that upset favourites Featherstone Rovers.
