Pontefract born John Crossley was at the veteran stage by the time he came to Featherstone having broken try-scoring records at two of his previous clubs. After started at Wakefield, Crossley really made his name at York, helping them to promotion and setting a tries in a season record of 35. His time there earned him a place in the York Hall of Fame. From there he went to Fulham and also set a new try scoring record there and helped them to promotion. After spells at Bradford and Halifax he arrived at Featherstone aged 30. His style was unchanged: Speed off the mark, always backing up his forwards looking for a break. Despite being behind Deryck Fox and Graham Steadman at halfback, Crossley managed a useful 66 games in three seasons before his retirement.
