Although John Eyre only ever played two first team matches for Featherstone Rovers, he managed to cover a number of different positions. On his debut in a good win over York he was selected on the wing, tore his finger and had to come off, and then came back on to play second-row. A year later a depleted Rovers line up at Wigan had Eyre starting at second-row but switched to hooker and “gave a very fine performance”.
