John Haley was the 20 year old younger brother of Castleford player Harold Haley, and he made his Featherstone Rovers debut in April 1940, the first season of the Emergency War League. Two months later in only his ninth game, he was Featherstone’s full-back in one of our most historic games, the 1940 Yorkshire Cup final, our first major trophy. Haley played his part in that famous win, but it was his last game for the club, as he failed to appear at the start of the following year, probably due to military service.
