Castleford born John Pollitt played 30 games over four seasons at his home-town club before signing for Featherstone for the 1937/38 season. He showed himself to be a very capable player, defensively sound and a useful kicker in open play too. He was also a useful goal kicker and shared the duties with Bill Sherwood. He was virtually an ever present in his first two seasons up to the outbreak of World War two. In the summer of 1940 he signed for Wakefield but in January 1941 tragedy struck when he was found drowned in a beck near Walton Colliery where he worked. He was just 28 years old.
