Talented half-back Jonny Hepworth had a varied and interesting career in both codes of rugby and made a useful contribution to a very successful Rovers team over three seasons. Having come through the ranks at Castleford Panthers, Hepworth signed for Leeds as a teenager and then moved to Castleford. Relegation at the Tigers saw Hepworth decide to try his hand at rugby union, at Leinster, Leeds Tykes (coached by Daryl Powell) and Rotherham.

Daryl Powell drafted him in to the Rovers squad and his crisp passing and ability to inject pace into the line was quickly noticed. With Andy Kain and Liam Finn firmly established as our half-backs, Jonny would slot in at centre, loose forward or off the bench as required. That first season brought him an impressive 17 tries and a Championship winner’s medal. He served the side well through the 2012 and 2013 seasons too, adding a run of games at full-back as further proof of his abilities as a versatile player. He retired at the end of the 2013 season.
