Reserve team second-rower Ken Jefferson got his first chance at first team level in the traditional end of season fixture glut, towards the end of 1948/9. With so many matches in such a short space of time, the squad was stretched to its limits, but it was a good opportunity for the likes of Jefferson to show what he could do. He wasn’t called on again, and when the Doncaster club started up in 1951 and they asked other RFL members for fringe first teamers, Jefferson was one of a number of players that Rovers offered to the Dons.
